Indiana University School of Medicine Child Protection Programs (IUCPP) is a division of the Department of Pediatrics that provides comprehensive, trauma-informed, multidisciplinary clinical consultation for children suspected of maltreatment. The division’s faculty members are all board-certified/eligible in the pediatric subspecialty, Child Abuse Pediatrics. Faculty members support and are supported by an expert team of certified pediatric nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed clinical social workers, mastery level health educators, and ancillary staff all dedicated to advancing the care of this vulnerable population and their families.

Our team offers consultation to health care providers, Department of Child Services (DCS), law enforcement, and other professionals in cases of suspected child maltreatment. Consultations occur telephonically, through photograph/medical record review, and/or with direct inpatient or outpatient encounters depending on a child and family’s needs and nature of the request. Our objective is to provide evidence-based consultations to determine the extent of the injuries a child may present with and whether a medical condition, accidental mechanism, or non-accidental mechanism accounts for a child’s presentation.
