Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring IN or compact licensure, tele/neuro experience, and flexibility with weekends and floating.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a teaching hospital setting

• Patients include CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors/resections, seizures, TBIs, trauma (shootings, stabbings, MVCs), GI surgeries, and large wound management

• Staffing ratios are typically 1:3-4, rarely 1:5 during emergencies

• Night shift schedule is 4x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30)

• Must be flexible to work 50% of weekends during contract, based on unit needs

• Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU units within the facility or to affiliate hospitals

• Travelers may be assigned precepting duties or have students shadowing them

• No local candidates accepted for PCU positions

• Uses Cerner EMR charting system

• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned pending operational needs, with training provided

• Expected to float as required throughout assignment

• Must be agreeable to precepting or having students assigned for shadowing

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

• Must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays

• Maximum of 5 days non-holiday time-off are auto-approved; additional days require facility approval

• No prior permanent or PRN employment at the facility within the past 12 months for travel eligibility

• Dress code or scrub requirements will be provided by the unit

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license in hand prior to start

• Minimum of 18 months to 2 years recent relevant RN experience required

• Current certifications in ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) valid at submission

• Proficient in telemetry and neuro nursing, including management of drips

• Preferred experience with conscious sedation and Level 1 trauma

• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing school

• Ability and willingness to float across varying levels of care

• Must provide two supervisor references
