* Position Overview:

**

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) serving as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) plays a vital role as an educator, advocate, and provider of care. This position is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of patients within the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU APRN collaborates closely with physicians and an interdisciplinary team to manage and coordinate nursing and patient care at Eskenazi Health.

Additionally, this role encompasses the delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, as well as ongoing evaluations, including pharmacologic interventions under a physician's guidance.

** Responsibilities:**

  • Develop and implement comprehensive care plans addressing physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
  • Serve as an informative resource for patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Make appropriate referrals to physicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain communication with patients, families, and visitors to meet their needs effectively.
  • Collaborate daily with physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and ancillary staff.
  • Coordinate patient care across departments for comprehensive service delivery.
  • Supervise personnel, providing feedback on performance and clinical competencies.
  • Report equipment repair needs promptly.
  • Demonstrate expertise in neonatal care and possess relevant specialty certification if available.
  • Perform specific procedures such as chest tube placement/removal, endotracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, and catheter placements.
