About Little Red Door Cancer Agency

Fighting cancer is tough enough, but it’s even harder when you don’t have medical insurance or the resources to afford proper care. Since 1945, Little Red Door Cancer Agency has been striving to make the most of life and the least of cancer by reducing the physical, emotional, and financial burdens of cancer for the medically underserved residents of central Indiana.

Little Red Door supports both adult clients and youth clients, including Camp Little Red Door.

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this position includes overall planning, coordination and execution of Little Red Door’s grant activity. This includes identification, research and preparation of proposal and grant applications, review of program performance to utilize grant awards, and the administrative work of researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities.

The Grant Writer will work with LRD’s Leadership Team to develop and write competitive grant proposals, prepare all necessary grant budgets and attachments, and prepare all reports to funding agencies. They will also maintain accurate tracking systems for reports and proposals due, and provide regular reports and updates to the Chief Advancement Officer and other pertinent staff. Additional duties may include managing proposal submission to selected government agencies or corporations, contributing to newsletters, annual report, and preparing text for fundraising materials.

Position also includes occasional event support when all development team members are expected to collaborate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Grant Writing and Portfolio Management
    • Research and identify new funding prospects and works to renew existing sources of grant support
    • Act as a liaison with program staff and funding agencies and organizations
    • Provide appropriate stewardship to funding agencies, individuals and corporations
    • Engage with program officers at organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals
    • Present project updates to the Chief Advancement Officer to ensure execution and successful implementation of all grant activity
    • Maintain grant processes and tracking for cultivation, proposal writing, and ongoing reporting
    • Input award data into the Salesforce database and maintain up to date grant information;
      Creates files for all awarded grants and ensures all additions/modifications to awards are tracked and recorded;
      Provides reports, responses to inquiries, and grants histories as requested
  • Work closely with program staff on the development of new proposals
  • Support Communications/Marketing and Development Department in the development of strategic communications materials such as mini case statements and organization profiles for funders and partner organizations.

  • May occasionally be responsible for managing intern(s).
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of successful results-oriented experience in research and proposal writing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills required.
  • Read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Proficient in research, interpretation and analyzes diverse data.
  • Work effectively and judiciously in a confidential setting.
  • Experience working with development/organizational databases such as Salesforce.
  • Produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.
  • Understand fundraising principles and techniques.
  • Work independently and to contribute to highly successful, results oriented team.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, manage projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Professional, and other software applications necessary to perform essential job functions and support other team members.
  • Strong organizational, process-oriented, time-management, and logical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive work relationships with management, staff members, and external contacts.
