Location: Edwardsport

Overview

First Baptist Church of Edwardsport is located at 310 South 5th St, Edwardsport Indiana. FBC is seeking a full-time pastor to preach the Gospel with a Biblical focus, provide pastoral care, and lead inspirational worship that motivates and energizes people to share the love of God. A recent survey of the congregation determined that strengths of a pastor should include; a focus on church growth, interpreting the faith, communication, counseling, visitation, education, preaching, and youth ministry.

We are a multigenerational church located in a small town with a strong sense of community spirit. While Edwardsport has seen a lot of change, the church mission and purpose has remained the same. The pastor should be a leader who motivates others to strive for higher levels of spirituality and service.

Responsibilities
  • Worship – lead worship services that inspire and engage participants. Participate in the worship service through song, praise, and fellowship. Give a morning welcome and recognize and introduce guests and newcomers, if guests so wish. Preach the full Gospel of Jesus Christ and make application of Scripture to life. Give an invitation to accept Christ at the conclusion of each sermon and pray with anyone coming forward.
  • Special Occasions – Conduct wedding and funeral services as well as baptisms, baby dedications, ordinations, and administering the serving of Holy Communion. Coordinate these events with deacons and worship/music team for assistance.
  • Bible Study – We expect dedication to personal bible study and participation in adult bible studies.
  • Office Hours – Weekly office hours should be made known to the congregation.
  • Visitation – make the best effort to visit those hospitalized and attend to those facing surgical procedures and critical illness. Shut-ins and those in the nursing homes should be visited regularly. Occasional home visits when necessary.
  • Community Involvement – Participate in community events. Examples include North Knox Ministerial Association, festivals, and school programs and sporting events.
  • Denominational Involvement – Participate in the life of the ABC of Indiana and Kentucky through attending local pastor gatherings (if available) and/or other regional events.
  • Committees – Attend monthly deacons’ meetings and bimonthly business meetings, giving a pastoral report.
  • Youth Ministry – Mentor and encourage members to minister to the adolescents in a way that nurtures youth toward Christian faith commitment and discipleship.
  • Church Growth – Participate in developing and maintaining programs and activities for enlarging the membership and/or the church’s vision for ministry, including areas such as youth ministry, visitation, spiritual life development, and community involvement.
  • Mentorship – Mentor church members in their spiritual journeys, helping them develop their faith and leadership skills.
  • Evangelism – Encourage evangelistic programs and initiatives; leading in visitation to the sick, shut-in, bereaved, and those new to the church.
  • Education – Some formal training at an accredited Bible College or Seminary is preferred. Meeting ordination standards of the ABCUSA and ABC-IN/KY would be beneficial and are highly encouraged.
Qualifications
  • Experience – Proven experience in pastoral leadership, preaching, and church administration is preferred but not necessary.
