Dimensional Metrology Technician; CMM​/Zeiss

Role Overview

You will be the last line of defense for product quality, ensuring every manufactured part meets exact specifications and customer obligations. Your work blends precision measurement, rigorous documentation, and hands‑on collaboration with machinists throughout the inspection lifecycle.

Reports to: Quality & Safety Manager

Your morning begins by comparing customer contracts and specifications to the latest manufacturing documentation, confirming all requirements are identified. You prep calibrated gauges and CMM programs, verify calibration due dates across employee, customer‑supplied, and company‑owned devices, and launch into first article and in‑process checks. As parts move toward completion, you perform final inspections, record results per defined procedures, and confirm shipping documentation certifies that every requirement has been satisfied.

Along the way, you coach teammates, investigate nonconformances to uncover root causes, complete 6S audits, and keep the inspection cell in peak condition.

• Interpret customer contracts/specs against travelers and build documentation to ensure obligations are fully captured and met.
• Execute first article (FAI), in-process, and final inspections using calibrated equipment; document outcomes according to established processes.
• Calibrate and maintain precision measurement devices per work instructions; keep all due dates current for employee, customer‑provided, and company‑owned tools.
• Prepare and complete shipping documentation that certifies conformance to all customer requirements.
• Process nonconforming material (NCRs) and assist with root cause analysis following standard work.
• Support the development of teammates through on‑the‑job training.
• Translate customer specifications into robust inspection criteria and plans.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all inspection equipment.
• Accurately complete paperwork and production reporting, including time & attendance and inventory transactions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe area using 6S principles; perform internal 6S audits on schedule.
• Follow all safety practices, policies, and regulations; perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• 4+ years in quality control or machining.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing methods and logistics administration.
• Hands‑on experience with optical comparators and profilometers.
• Advanced blueprint reading with deep GD&T knowledge; familiarity with military specifications.
• Lean and quality system exposure preferred: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485, AS9100D.
• CMM operation and troubleshooting required;
  Zeiss Calypso preferred.
• Experience with ERP and quality software interfaces preferred.
• Strong math skills, basic computer literacy, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Clear written and verbal communication; collaborative mindset and comfort with challenging work.
