Operations Manager
The Material Manager is responsible for managing the availability, movement, and utilization of raw and block materials across quarry and manufacturing operations. This role partners closely with Quarry, Manufacturing, and Sales leadership to ensure internal production needs and external customer demands are met efficiently and safely.
Scope of ResponsibilityEnsure safe, efficient, and organized block movement practices across all yards and facilities
Maintain compliance with Polycor policies, safety standards, and operational procedures
Work extended hours (40+ per week), including overtime and weekends as business needs require
Communicate effectively with internal teams, leadership, and customers
Operate effectively in both operational and sales-driven environments
Utilize and understand multiple manufacturing, planning, and inventory systems
Serve as a key liaison between Quarry, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Sales teams
Key Responsibilities Material ManagementPlan and manage material flow to production plants to support weekly production schedules
Coordinate trucking capacity, routing, and timing with contracted transportation partners
Collaborate with the Block Procurement team to align on current demand, constraints, and priorities
Partner with Production Planning to balance supply availability with manufacturing needs
- Weekly material reports for quarry planning meetings
- Weekly material availability reports for sales teams
- Monthly material outlook reports for Monthly Business Reviews (M ) and gap analysis
Manage material reserves, including:
- Silver Buff aging reserves
- Winter sales inventory reserves
Develop and implement standardized inventory process flows for each block yard
Execute monthly inventory cycle counts
Lead the annual physical block inventory count
Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile discrepancies
Lead local block sales efforts and support external block customers
Work with direct reports to visit local block customers and understand project requirements
Coordinate material availability to support customer project timelines
Assist with material sampling for strategic or high-value projects
Apply creative and practical solutions when managing customer credit requests
Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceAssociate degree or technical degree required; equivalent experience considered
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in the natural stone industry
Strong understanding of limestone block grading and material characteristics
Demonstrated experience in inventory control systems and processes
Manufacturing or quarry experience with a continuous improvement mindset
Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Dynamics AX
- Microsoft Excel
- High level of computer literacy and comfort working across multiple systems
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
