Job Description
Job Title: Welder
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance/Yard Superintendent
SUMMARYWelds metal components together with brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
- Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts.
- Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
- Cleans up after job is completed.
- Always does inspection of work site before beginning work.
- Fills out necessary hot permits.
- Runs small equipment when necessary.
- Does work independently without being told.
- Takes proper care of tools and equipment.
- Maintains proper fluid levels in all equipment.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment and components (incl. replacing bearings, pulleys, drives, reducer etc.).
- Works well both independently and in team environments, including directing activities of fellow employees assigned to assist Welder as needed.

- Welds various metals (steel, aluminum, etc.)
- Operates a cutting torch.
- Identifies metals.
- Fabricates tools, mounts, etc.
- Brazes.
- Reads blueprints.
- Welds in all conditions.
- Knows and understands heat limits.
$26.33-$29.06 based on Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEAssociate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUANGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

The employee must wear personal protective equipment of steel toed shoes/boots, safety glasses, hard hat and gloves if applicable.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather condition; and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
