Genetic Production Technician; Swine Tech

We are currently looking for a permanent full-time Genetic Production Technician (Swine Tech) in our maternal GN farm in North Vernon Indiana. The successful candidate would ideally live in the surrounding areas of Indiana, but foreign recruits from Mexico or Canada are also welcome to apply as we hire through the TN Visa Program. These positions are responsible for assisting other Genetic Production Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks to ensure the welfare and well-being of our animals.

• Work as a team player by accomplishing specific department duties and farm goals,
• Ensure proper health, handling, and comfort of sows, gilts, and piglets, i.e.: daily health checks and monitoring/maintaining proper ventilation,
• Weigh, sort, handle, and/or move pigs,
• Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks,
• Complete minor maintenance tasks to ensure feed and water systems are working properly,
• Power wash empty pens and prepare rooms for animal entry,
• Keep accurate records on all animals as requested, i.e.: pig identification,
• Work safely and wear appropriate PPE while performing all job duties,
• Ensure the barn's biosecurity protocol is followed by all staff and visitors,
• Assist with maintaining barn, office cleanliness, and laundry duties,
• Performing other general farm duties as required.

• Self-motivated, reliable and a team player,
• Outstanding organization and communication skills and demonstrates attention to detail,
• Able to manage priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment,
• Driver’s license and ability to work weekends,
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to lift 50 lbs,
• Willing to work in a production facility and walk/stand for long periods,
• A college certificate or other specialized training in agriculture or livestock husbandry with 1-2 years of experience would be an asset,
• Proficient in English communication is preferable.
