The Right-of-Way Coordinator plans, organizes and directs the clearing and maintenance of Rush Shelby Energy territory rights-of-way, tree trimming, spraying, mowing, and coordinates other various outside contract crews utilized by Rush Shelby Energy.
ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY- Responsible for the observance of RSE safety rules, procedures, safety policies and bulletins to include NESC, OSHA, DOT, EPA, RUS and any standard that may apply to employees performing right-of-way clearing, constructing, reconstructing, or inspecting RSE facilities
- Obtain approval from VP of Engineering and Operations for all right-of-way (ROW) clearing
- Plan and maintain system’s ROW schedule
- Manage ROW budgets
- Generate, evaluate and negotiate bids and contracts as needed for trimming, spraying, and mowing RSE right-of-way
- Assign and coordinate all right-of-way cutting, trimming, spraying and mowing with right-of-way crews, as necessary
- Assist VP of Engineering and Operations Assign with assigning and coordinating outside overhead/underground crews, inspection crews, and other special service outside contract crews
- Diligently evaluate right-of-way crews and outside contract crews daily as to the quality and quantity of work completed
- Assist in the resolution of all claims and complaints resulting from right-of-way clearing
- Coordinate restoration of property damages caused by RSE crews or contractors
- Work closely with VP of Engineering and Operations and Accounting department to approve invoices from contractors and track budgets and spending
- Maintain industry contacts to stay better informed on the safe and proper use of right-of-way equipment
- Coordinate member generated ROW service orders with ROW contractors
- Work with Staking Engineers to bid tree work
- Required to be on the monthly dispatch schedule in case of outages and emergencies
- Assist during major power outages in capacities assigned by the VP of Engineering and Operations
- Other duties as assigned
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience
- High School Diploma or satisfactory GED equivalent required
- Thorough knowledge of electric theory and safety practices and procedures is mandatory
- Minimum 2 years’ experience at Rush Shelby Energy or background in rural electric cooperatives or the utility industry preferred
- Additional education or training in public relations and right-of-way is highly desirable
- Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license
- Must be knowledgeable of electric utility operations and safety practices in tree cutting, topping, etc.
- Must have or be willing to gain knowledge of the use of herbicides and right-of-way control
- Must possess ability and willingness to earn and maintain proper trimming and application certifications and licenses
- Must have thorough knowledge of RUS specifications and current NESC Code
- Ability and willingness to become drone-certified
- Must be able to utilize vegetation management software proficiently
- Must be proficient with MS Office Suite, One Drive, OMS, Partner, Yukon, iVUE Financials
- Must be self-motivated and have the desire to continually improve the overall reliability and integrity of Rush Shelby Energy’s infrastructure
- Must have the physical ability to work inside an office environment and sit at a desk to handle various computer work and work outdoors in all weather conditions and walk on various terrains
- Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute and collaborate in a group setting
- Must possess strong customer service skills
- Must be able to work autonomously with little supervision
- Must be organized and detail-oriented, with ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines simultaneously
- Must project a positive public image and maintain satisfactory public relations by responding to consumer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Must have ability to work effectively in a changing environment
- Must have ability and willingness to work overtime as needed and/or required
- Must be able and willing to attend meetings, training, conferences that may require travel and/or overnight stays
- Must always represent the Cooperative with professionalism, including but not limited to during all member and community interactions, while driving a company vehicle, while wearing company logoed apparel
