Role Overview

This position serves as the Winter Operations Manager and is responsible for meeting departmental objectives related to snow and ice removal operations. This position ensures the effective use of resources (labor, equipment, material, funds) within INDOT maintenance operations, in order to effectively meet service level requirements by providing strategic direction, resource‑management support, guidance, training, and leadership to snow and ice removal KEEPING all THEN operations at all levels.

  • Guide snow and ice removal program from statewide level, monitor performance and affect improvements;
  • Serve as primary agency contact during snow and ice removal operations, ensure routine operational briefings, and winter related performance data are provided to executive staff, public information office, Emergency Operations Center, and Governor’s office, as necessary;
  • Work in conjunction with the Emergency Planning and Response team to ensure INDOT maintenance operations meet agency needs during snow operations;
  • Monitor resource levels to ensure appropriate resources are available; work with district to address shortfalls and promote resource sharing amongst subdistricts and districts;
  • Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure the procurement of snow and ice related materials prior to the winter season, monitor materials and services during season to ensure adequate supplies are available;
  • Develop operational performance metrics for snow and ice removal, and other emergency maintenance operations as required;
  • Investigate, pilot, and implement new snow and ice removal technology, method, materials, and equipment;
  • Oversee the development of and manage contracts for forecasting and Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS);
  • Prepare contracts for forecasting and weather station services. Monitor services for functionality and serve as primary contact for issues;
  • Assist with specifications on snow and ice related equipment;
  • Represent INDOT on various national research projects and other groups related to-colored-snow removal performance enhancement;
  • Develop and implement annual snow and ice training program in addition to providing training on new equipment, technology, or snow removal concepts to field personnel;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Location

This position is located in INDOT’s Central Office.

Salary

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $59,800.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
