Overview
Position Title:
Grounds and General Maintenance Technician.
Location:
Porter Service Center. Status:
Closing Date - Until filled.
Functions independently, or as part of a work crew engaged in school district property maintenance projects and tasks. Performs grounds, pavement, tree trimming, and related maintenance; maintains safety, cleanliness, and environmental controls on district property.
Responsibilities- Functions independently, or as part of a work crew engaged in school district property maintenance projects and tasks.
- Performs grounds maintenance activities, i.e., cutting, mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, planting foliage.
- Performs shrubbery and tree maintenance activities, i.e., pruning limbs, shaping hedges, and cutting branches.
- Performs pavement and asphalt maintenance activities, i.e., cutting out edges, patching sidewalks, patching potholes.
- Performs structural maintenance activities, i.e., the painting of playground and field equipment, repairing fences and gates, preparing athletic fields.
- Maintains materials and supplies usage records for district inventory and property accounting purposes.
- Operates various electric, gas and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, sprayers, air compressors, mowers, blowers, weed-eaters, hedge trimmers.
- Assists with various facilities and trades maintenance and repair tasks within scope of abilities.
- Ensures cleanliness, order, and environmentally safe conditions of district property; addresses safety concerns in a time efficient manner; reports real or potential maintenance/repair needs.
- Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials utilized; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe use and operation of equipment, tools, and materials.
- Performs clean up and work site restoration activities, i.e., picking up litter, disposing of waste and debris, cleaning surfaces.
- Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine, or otherwise prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions.
- Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job-appropriate, being used by Warren.
- With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in the current position.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
- EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High school diploma or GED is required. - EXPERIENCE:
Any previous experience demonstrating ability to fulfill the physical and dexterity requirements of the work, as applicable to the assigned maintenance area (i.e., grounds maintenance, pavement maintenance, tree trimming); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. - CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES:
Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license to operate district vehicles. - OTHER:
Ability to perform the essential functions, meet the performance aptitudes, and fulfill the physical/sensory/environmental requirements of the job (with or without reasonable accommodations) is required.

Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines. - Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or clarifying details. Performs such within well-established policies, procedures and standards. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:
Requires the ability to operate standard hand-held tools, and electric, gas, and manually powered equipment and machinery. - Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and advisory data and information. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to perform addition and subtraction. - Functional Reasoning:
Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action. - Situational Reasoning:
Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). - SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
