Job Summary

The Associate Attorney position will provide extensive courtroom experience by regularly appearing in court for BG. The role involves reviewing new claims and pleadings, managing a contested litigation queue, and gaining substantial knowledge of court procedures, litigation process, internal controls, and client and firm policies. This position has no billable hour requirements.

Essential Duties
  • Appear in court for the firm at least 3 days per week.
  • Review new claims received by the firm to ensure compliance.
  • Review and sign off on all pleadings printed for filing with courts, such as complaints and motions.
  • Occasionally draft motions and responses to contested matters.
  • Argue contested motions before the court and conduct trials and arbitrations.
  • Manage both telephone and written contact with opposing counsel.
  • Prepare and, if necessary, respond to discovery or oversee counterclaims where BG or client are named.
Education and Experience
  • Juris Doctorate and admission to the Indiana Bar. (Additional licenses in BG states are valued.)
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Case‑file management system experience preferred (e.g., Collection Master).
Interpersonal Skills

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, work well with diverse staff, judges, opposing counsel and court clerks, and use tact, discretion and courtesy when dealing with court officials, opposing counsel, & staff attorneys.

Accountability

Ability to work independently, make responsible decisions, maintain timelines, meet deadlines, keep accurate records and be detail‑oriented.
