Job Title: Sex & Violent Offender Registration Review Coordinator
Location: Indianapolis, IN 46204
The Indiana Department of Correction needs a coordinator to assist with statutory responsibilities related to sex and violent offender registration. The role involves working with local law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, and other justice professionals to implement state obligations and review registration determinations.
EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Collect court and registration documentation from local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
- Review and analyze legal documents, criminal codes, court orders, and related records.
- Update Department, state, and federal tracking tools and maintain accurate data.
- Create and complete reviews to support registration determinations.
- Collaborate with division staff and local law enforcement to maintain records and ensure compliance.
- Handle multiple complex tasks and make decisions based on knowledge and understanding of each question.
- Use multiple methods to accomplish outcomes, delivering results accurately and timely.
- Ensure accuracy to avoid negative public perception, litigation, or public safety risks.
The position makes independent decisions on sex and violent offender registration obligations, which are then communicated to local law enforcement. Incorrect decisions can lead to litigation and liability, so the incumbent must exercise discretion and ensure compliance with Indiana Code, case law, agency policy, and department goals.
Required Skills- Legal research experience (Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, INcite, Doxpop).
- Familiarity with criminal history records (Triple I's, probable‑cause affidavits, conviction/sentencing documents, present‑sentence investigation reports, court orders).
- Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret criminal and administrative code, policies, procedures, and legal documents.
- Experience gathering and processing documentation.
- Maintain discretion when handling confidential information.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills; manage multiple tasks under time constraints.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships.
- Bachelor's Degree (highly desired). Master’s Degree (nice to have).
