Position OverviewSMG is seeking an IT Associate – Systems and Applications in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.
We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented IT Associate to join our team. This role will primarily support day-to-day IT operations and end-user support, while also providing structured exposure to application support, QA testing, and IT project work.
Key responsibilities include responding to IT inquiries from SMG associates, coordinating support with our third-party help desk and mobile device provider, ensuring new employees have the technology they need, and assisting with our software development processes. The IT Associate will also support Microsoft Forms/Power Platform initiatives, as well as participate in QA testing and documenting software requirements. Over time, this role will expand into additional areas of IT such as system administration, security, and infrastructure support.
This position is ideal for early-career IT professionals seeking hands‑on experience across multiple areas of IT. We’re looking for someone who can make an immediate impact while gaining valuable experience to grow their IT career.
Requirements- Serve as the first point of contact for internal IT support requests. Assist users with account management, software installations, and basic troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with our third-party MSP/help desk to ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
- Support hardware and software deployments for new hires and existing employees, including mobile devices. Maintain acceptable inventory at SMG office to support our mobile workforce. Offboarding as needed.
- Manage MS365, SharePoint applications, MS Forms users, and other Microsoft Power Platform initiatives.
- Document common IT issues and resolutions to enhance self-service resources.
- Exposure to conducting quality assurance (QA) testing on our internal software application, ensuring features function as expected.
- Introduction to documenting software requirements in collaboration with development team.
- Learn and develop technical skills in areas such as network administration, cloud services, and cybersecurity.
- Assist the IT Director with projects related to IT strategy, system upgrades, and security improvements.
- Assist with Conference Room AV & technology support to ensure the best experience for SMG associates & visitors.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with or strong interest in Microsoft SharePoint, Forms, and Power Platform.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Basic understanding of IT systems, networking, and security concepts.
- Interest in software development, QA testing, and product management.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, or other enterprise IT tools is a plus.
- Hands‑on learning experience with opportunities for professional growth.
- Exposure to strategic IT initiatives in a growing safety consulting firm.

- First 3 months:
Confidently handling internal IT requests and coordinating with our MSP. - 3-6 months:
Independently managing onboarding/offboarding, documentation, and basic Power Platform support. - 6-12 months:
Actively contributing to QA testing, requirements documentation, and IT improvement projects.
