Role Summary

The Senior Data Engineer (Epic Care Ambulatory – Healthy Planet / Population Health) plays a critical role in designing, building, and optimizing enterprise-scale data pipelines, datasets, and ETL/ELT processes across their full lifecycle. This role partners closely with a multidisciplinary Agile team to deliver well-governed, high-quality, and actionable data that supports population health, clinical analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.

This position is responsible for assembling and integrating large, complex datasets—including paired clinical and operational data from Epic Data repositories
—and supporting data migration initiatives to Epic Cloud to ensure seamless, secure, and performant access to analytics-ready data across the enterprise.

Job Overview
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and optimized data pipeline architectures with awareness of emerging technologies aligned to evolving business needs.
  • Integrate paired data sets with Epic Data (including Healthy Planet / Population Health domains) and support data migration and synchronization to Epic Cloud environments
    , ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and governance.
  • Sync data across multiple internal and external systems to ensure data integrity and enable reliable insights across analytics and reporting platforms.
  • Partner closely with data science teams and business/data analysts to refine data requirements and ensure datasets are fit for advanced analytics, reporting, and consumption.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering team members by removing development roadblocks through collaboration, clear communication, and innovative solution design.
  • Identify, design, and implement process and infrastructure improvements, including scalability enhancements, data delivery optimization, and automation of manual workflows.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across data, design, product, and executive teams to troubleshoot and resolve data-related technical challenges.
  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education, including Epic and Python certifications, in alignment with organizational standards.
Job Requirements Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Healthcare Information Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Epic Ambulatory Certification (expected within 1 year of hire)
  • Epic Clinical Data Model Certification
Technical & Domain Experience
  • Hands‑on experience with Healthy Planet (Population Health)
  • Experience working with Epic Data models and clinical datasets
    , including data integration and cloud migration initiatives
  • Exposure to relational databases (e.g., SQL Server) and non‑relational databases
  • Experience designing and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines, curated datasets, and BI/analytics solutions
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or C#
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum development methodologies
Experience Level
  • 4–5 years of experience in technical roles within Information Systems, Computer Science, Healthcare IT, or related disciplines
  • Up to 1 year of clinical healthcare experience preferred
