Role Overview :

INDOT’s Traffic Management Division improves traffic mobility and efficiency through a statewide network of thousands of IP addressable devices, including CCTV cameras, traffic signal controllers, dynamic message boards, roadway sensors, and the physical networking equipment and media that connects them. These devices are managed and controlled by a variety of enterprise software solutions, large scale databases, and custom software applications. The incumbent has responsibility for overseeing and directing multiple technical and IT teams that are engaged in the daily operation and oversight of INDOT’s Traffic Management Center and the security of its IT systems.

The individual systems include; oversight of database and systems administration functions, networks, software development, and maintenance of field infrastructure . The incumbent is responsible for the continuous improvement of system reliability, up-time, data quality, and other key operational metrics, to reduce risks to operations. This position also has a key role in managing projects and defining goals that the data network and IT support teams undertake on behalf of Traffic Management.

These responsibilities includes oversight of project delivery, budget management, as well as planning and management of new initiatives.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $93,002.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Define software and IT infrastructure requirements for the application software, directs staff.
  • Enhances operations by establishing metrics, analyzing processes, and implementing standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Directthe development and implementation of information technology budgets, and/or related cost recovery methods.
  • Directthe creation of feasibility studies and time and cost estimates.
  • Planand directthe acquisition and use of information technology products, services, and resources to meet the agency's mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Develop and promulgate information technology policy and procedures.
  • Managethe establishment of new or revised application systems and programs.
  • Assign personnel to projects and direct activities.
  • Establish the major milestones and objectives for assigned projects and staff.
  • Confer with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.
  • Consult with personnel and management in other information systems sections to coordinate activities and ascertain technology needs.
  • Prepare activity and progress reports regarding the activities of the applications systems and programming section.
  • Prepares performance reports, leads feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews.
