Associate Director – Platform Operations, Linux and Storage Backup

Join Bio Space at Lilly and help unlock the power of Infrastructure Operations through AI & Automation. In this role you will lead the US-based Linux, Storage and Backup operations teams, driving our global technical operations within the Infrastructure Hosting Platform.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your responsibilities include maintaining system stability, automating operational tasks, and ensuring high availability for mission‑critical workloads. You will work with large, geographically dispersed enterprise environments, supporting sites in multi‑datacenter stretch clusters. You will guide our operations teams and collaborate with other platform infrastructure SMEs to deliver daily operations effectively.

  • Be bold – drive Infrastructure Operations to prevent repeat problems through AI OPS, event‑driven automation, and robust observability.
  • Be fast – accelerate initiatives in infrastructure AI OPS automation, cloud IaaS management, and cloud infrastructure‑as‑code.
  • Be proactive – transform operations processes using AI & observability capabilities.
  • Be your best – bring high learning agility and engineering skills to enable Lilly’s technology strategy.
What You Should Bring Operations Management
  • Maintain service operations to ensure sustainability.
  • Incident, change, service request and problem management.
  • Track and report service levels.
  • Enhance systems, processes and best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align operations with organizational objectives.
  • Manage an infrastructure budget focused on spend optimisation.
People Management
  • Lead a high‑performing team, driving continuous improvement and business impact.
  • Coach employees and support career planning.
  • Prioritise operational workload and manage escalation.
Technical Skills
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor team members.
  • Focus on automation: scripting and tool utilisation.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and vendors for innovative solutions.
  • Assist with internal and external audits of server environments.
  • Ensure policy adherence and regulatory compliance.
  • Optimize private cloud infrastructure and build systems for performance.
  • Participate in incident, change, and request management and on‑call schedule.
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field.
  • 7+ years’ experience as a platform/infrastructure operations leader.
  • Demonstrated global large‑scale infrastructure service leadership.
Additional Information
  • Onsite role located in Indianapolis, IN (relocation required).
  • Expected onsite shift coverage 11:00 am – 8:00 pm US Eastern Standard Time (or 12:00 – 9:00 pm US Eastern Daylight Saving Time).
  • Work one of two schedules:
    Monday‑Friday or Thursday‑Monday.
  • Less than 10% travel.

Compensation

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated salary range for this position is $132,000 – $193,600. Full‑time employees are eligible for bonus, 401(k) sponsorship, pension, vacation, medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.
