The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacists in storing, preparing, dispensing, reconciling, and charging of all medications. Assists the pharmacists in maintaining an adequate and accurate drug inventory as well quality control procedures. Pharmacy Technicians shall work under the direct supervision of a licensed registered pharmacist and will only perform activities that comply with the State Board of Pharmacy practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position. It should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all required duties, responsibilities, and skills.
- Accurately prepares medication orders for dispensing by the pharmacist by retrieving, counting, pouring, labeling, and mixing medications
- Verifies the information on the prescription is complete and accurate
- Enters patient and medication order information into the pharmacy system
- Coordinates billing, processes and submits insurance claims
- Understands the basics of the 340B program and how it fits into the pharmacy workflow
- Knowledge and understanding of standards for any accreditations which the pharmacy holds
- Assists patients and prescribers with the Prior Authorization processes
- Provides quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers
- Processes new and refill prescriptions
- Performs all tasks in a safe manner that is consistent with organizational policies as well as state and federal laws
- Always ensures pharmacy security
- Receives refill requests and verifies that information is complete and accurate
- Assists the pharmacist with drug inventory
- Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs
- Answers telephones and responds to questions or requests
- Greets customers when they approach the pharmacy area
- Assists patients in enrolling in patient assistance programs through the state, foundations, or drug manufacturers
- Assists the pharmacist with monitoring and increasing patient compliance
- Accepts and processes payments from customers
- Files prescriptions that have been filled
- Cleans, and maintains equipment and work areas according to pharmacy protocols
- Establishes and maintains patient profiles, including allergies and lists of medications taken by individual patients
- Receives and stores incoming inventory and supplies, verifies quantities against invoices, and informs pharmacists of stock needs and shortages
- Performs all other duties assigned by the pharmacy manager
Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician in Indiana with license in good standing
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or NHA) required within 1 year of employment
- Must have at least 1 year of current retail pharmacy technician experience
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely
- Good communication skills and a customer-first attitude
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift less than or up to 30 lbs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required.
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
