Overview

The Paramedic is responsible for the safe and timely transport of patients to and from healthcare facilities, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety throughout the journey. Duties include operating the ambulance, assisting with patient transfers, maintaining vehicle readiness, and completing all required documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the ambulance and ensure vehicle readiness for patient transport.
  • Assist with patient transfers, including lifting and moving patients and equipment as needed.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide high standards of patient care and safety throughout transport.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license (Class C or as required) and a clean driving record; ability to pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
  • Current first aid and CPR certification.
  • Minimum one year of Emergency Medical Services experience preferred; minimum one year of experience driving similar vehicles (ambulance, van, or other large vehicles) preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to drive RMH vehicles and have a driving record that meets the satisfactory driving record standard used during the background check.
  • Must hold a valid Operator’s License from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and EVOC or equivalent training to drive.
Education & Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited Paramedic program.
  • Must hold certification from the Indiana State Emergency Medical Services Commission as a Paramedic.
  • Must have completed American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS, ECC, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support courses; if needed, may complete within the first 90 days.

  • Demonstrates the ability to complete applicable competencies and to give and follow instructions accurately.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with healthcare personnel, law enforcement, fire personnel, patients, bystanders, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and to prioritize, use critical thinking, and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently, with flexibility in work hours.
  • Experience driving ambulances or other large vehicles and operating emergency vehicle equipment.
