Patient Care Technician
Overview
The Emergency Department (ED) Technician – Ultrasound Support is responsible for assisting ED providers with bedside ultrasound imaging and related procedures. Key duties include preparing, cleaning, stocking, and maintaining all ultrasound equipment to ensure its operational, charged, and immediately available, especially for trauma and high-acuity patients. The technician prepares patients and rooms for procedures by confirming patient identity, positioning patients correctly, and facilitating proper provider documentation.
ResponsibilitiesWhen not directly supporting ultrasound needs, the technician focuses on overall departmental readiness and helps enhance the patient experience through tasks such as room turnover and general support.
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 12p-12a.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
- EMT or PCA certification is preferred.
- Requires knowledge of routine patient care procedures.
- Requires familiarity with standard medical equipment and supplies.
- Requires basic understanding of infection control.
- Requires Knowledge of EMTALA
- Some experience in patient care within a hospital setting is preferred.
