Overview
BIOCHEM, MOLECULAR BIO, & PHAR (IN-BMBP-IUINA). Dr. Wen Zhang's laboratory at the Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to support ongoing research in mirror-image nucleic acids (L-RNA and L-DNA) for next-generation therapeutic technologies. This position is ideal for candidates seeking strong research experience in molecular biology, nucleic acid chemistry, and cancer therapeutics while working on high-impact, publishable projects.
Responsibilities- Contributes to projects involving L-RNA/L-DNA nanomedicine, RNA aptamer selection, and the structural and chemical biology of nucleic acids.
- Performs routine molecular biology experiments (PCR, DNA/RNA purification, gel electrophoresis).
- Cell cultures (mammalian cell lines) and transfection.
- Assists with nanoparticle assembly and characterization.
- Supports general laboratory organization and reagent preparation.
- Collaborates closely with the PI and lab trainees on ongoing research projects.
- Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
- Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
- Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
- Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
- Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
- May train junior-level staff.
- May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Education- Required
:
Bachelor s degree in science or related field.
- Preferred
:
Masters degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
- Experience with cell culture or nucleic acid work is a plus.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
