Overview

NEPHROLOGY AND HYPERTENSION (IN-NEPH-IUINA). Indiana University School of Medicine is a national leader in medical research and education. The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension is committed to the research, treatment and prevention of kidney diseases, including acute and chronic renal failure, complications of chronic dialysis treatment, hypertension, and kidney stones and cystic disease. This position supports the Division’s research activities in imaging-driven projects and is ideal for someone seeking hands-on experience in advanced microscopy, tissue labeling and clearing, and computational data workflows.

This role supports the Poudel Lab by preparing, executing, and documenting experiments across a diverse set of imaging-driven research projects. The position involves hands-on lab work with imaging modalities including lightsheet microscopy and management of imaging datasets with a focus on reproducibility and rigorous documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in day-to-day laboratory operations and performs technical tasks essential for generating high-quality, reproducible data.
  • Coordinates research logistics such as maintaining lab inventory, purchasing and stocking reagents, and ensuring that equipment and supplies are prepared for ongoing experiments.
  • Contributes directly to data production through sample preparation and advanced optical imaging (including lightsheet microscopy).
  • Helps manage, curate, and back up large-scale imaging datasets, implementing standardized workflows for data handling, annotation, and storage.
  • Develops, refines, and documents experimental and computational protocols to support quality assurance and lab-wide reproducibility.
  • Collaborates closely with other lab members to ensure that protocols, sample metadata, and imaging parameters are consistently captured and updated.
  • Enables smooth operational flow within the Poudel Lab and contributes to cutting-edge 3D imaging and computational pathology research by combining lab support, technical expertise, and rigorous documentation.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • May train junior-level staff.
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The role requires the ability to communicate effectively, move about the work environment, position oneself to operate laboratory equipment, and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role may involve work near moving mechanical parts and must be performed with or without accommodation.

Compensation and Location

Salary range: $39,790 - $45,000 annually
