Location: Indianapolis

Hours: 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM (7.5 hours/day; 1-hour lunch or optional 30-minute lunch)

Position Overview

  • The Microbiologist is responsible for coordinating and performing molecular testing for SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A, Influenza B, RSV, and other pathogens of public health concern in wastewater and water samples.
  • This role includes laboratory testing, data interpretation, quality control, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform wastewater sample concentration, RNA extraction, and PCR/qPCR molecular testing.
  • Conduct testing for SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A & B, RSV, and other public health pathogens.
  • Examine, analyze, interpret, validate, and report laboratory test results.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and sample tracking systems.
  • Perform quality control checks on laboratory methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with certification requirements and laboratory safety standards.
  • Assist with preparation of laboratory reports and data summaries.
  • Participate in evaluation and validation of new laboratory products and methods.
  • Comply with all applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and program policies.
  • Participate in required proficiency testing programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a biological science (Required).
  • Hands-on experience performing RNA/DNA extraction and PCR/qPCR testing (Required).
  • Strong knowledge of molecular testing principles, theories, and laboratory practices.
  • Experience using molecular and standard laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, evaluate, and prepare laboratory reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain productive professional relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of molecular testing experience (Highly Desired).
