Position SummaryThe Microbiologist will be responsible for coordinating and performing molecular testing for SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A & B, RSV, and other pathogens of public health concern. This role focuses on wastewater and water sample testing, data analysis, quality control, and regulatory compliance while maintaining strict laboratory safety and certification standards.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct wastewater sample concentration, RNA extraction, and qPCR molecular testing
- Perform laboratory testing for SARS-CoV-2 and other public health pathogens
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation for submitted samples
- Evaluate, interpret, validate, and report laboratory test results
Complete all required quality control procedures and proficiency testing - Ensure compliance with laboratory certification, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Assist in the preparation of technical and analytical reports
- Participate in the evaluation of new laboratory methods, materials, and equipment
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper usage of molecular testing tools
- Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Biological Science or related field
- Hands‑on experience performing RNA/DNA extraction and PCR/qPCR testing
- Strong knowledge of molecular biology principles and testing methodologies
- Ability to analyze data, validate results, and prepare laboratory reports
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and quality assurance procedures
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Minimum 1 year of molecular testing experience
- Experience with environmental or wastewater testing
- Familiarity with state and federal laboratory regulations and compliance standards
- Candidate must be able to satisfactorily participate in proficiency testing programs
