We are seeking a highly motivated CPD&D Laboratory Assistant to support technical personnel in day-to-day laboratory and greenhouse operations. This role plays a key part in maintaining laboratory standards to ensure the accuracy, validity, and integrity of experimental results.
You will work as part of a collaborative team of four in a laboratory and greenhouse environment, with rotating responsibilities to keep the work engaging.
Experience with
aseptic techniques is essential.
- Prepare research media and specified solutions
- Clean, rinse, and sterilize glassware and equipment (autoclave use)
- Operate basic laboratory equipment
- Assist with routine lab tasks, plant setup, tagging, and applications
- Prepare, inoculate, harvest, and store fungal cultures under sterile conditions
- Assist with plant mobility tests, breakdowns, and cart movement
- Safely handle fungicides and research-related chemicals
- Proper use of PPE, including PAPRs
- Ensure correct storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals
- Clean labs, greenhouses, benches, floors, and growth rooms
- Wash carts, manage waste containers, and prepare plant material for disposal
- Stock laboratories and greenhouses with necessary supplies
Skills & Qualifications
- Background in Biology or Plant Pathology (preferred)
- 1–2 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirements
- Knowledge of plant science and fungal culture handling
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Strong work ethic, excellent attendance, and willingness to learn
- OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation required (PAPR use)
- Exposure to common allergens, including chemicals and latex
- 40 hours/week + 2 hours on one Saturday per month
- This is not a temp-to-hire role
