Overview

The Associate Patient Access Representative (APAR) is the first contact for visitors, handling customer service, patient registration, and financial clearance. This role includes check-ins, scheduling, payment collection, insurance verification, and compliance management. The APAR ensures smooth workflows and adherence to guidelines, preparing patients administratively and financially for their visits.

Responsibilities
  • Front-office and back-office functions across the network, including registration/admissions, scheduling, and related tasks
  • Monitor and perform patient hospital and/or ambulatory movement as applicable
  • Pre-register scheduled patients using the EPIC work queue
  • Verify medical necessity per CMS standards and communicate coverage/eligibility to the patient
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, insurance, and financial information for inpatient/outpatient services
  • Gather and verify confidential health and financial information, ensuring payment for authorized services
  • Confirm completeness of the electronic health record (EHR) and make necessary changes
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 1+ years of healthcare office experience and/or strong customer service background (Preferred)
  • Proficient in all types of registrations (inpatient, outpatient, emergency)
  • Ability to complete Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers in a timely manner when applicable
  • Ability to monitor and manage patient movement within hospital/ambulatory settings
  • Experience with EPIC work queues for pre-registration
  • Ability to verify medical necessity per CMS standards and communicate information to patients
  • Accurate entry of patient demographics, insurance, and financial information
