The Behavioral Health Crisis Therapist conducts crisis mental health and substance abuse evaluations for consumers. Evaluates biopsychosocial status and needs for the development of an appropriate treatment/crisis plan. Provides 24‑hour mental health/substance abuse emergency resources to persons in central Indiana.
Responsibilities- Collect and document psychosocial status and needs for disposition.
- Provide ADL support when necessary; triage patients accurately in various settings (Pavilion, ER, medical unit).
- Determine level and type of risk (suicide, homicide) for each patient presenting in crisis and conduct crisis intervention and support services.
- Screen consumers and family members for mental health and chemical dependency.
- Coordinate direct admissions between patient providers, inpatient psychiatrists, and inpatient units.
- Maintain documentation for all crisis and case management services.
- Deliver off‑site and community‑based response; provide consultation services to medical units.
- Educate hospital staff and external customers; screen for acute care services (partial, outpatient, case management).
- Provide psychiatric coverage to Network Emergency departments and other departments as needed.
- Present detailed cases to insurance reviewers and psychiatrists on high‑risk patients.
- Participate in aggressive behavior management appropriate to the population served.
- LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LCAC licensure in the State of Indiana.
- Master’s degree in a mental health related field.
- At least 2 years of experience providing mental health treatment.
- Experience in crisis triage and management, risk assessments, and working with mental health and chemically dependent populations preferred.
- Experience in a medical milieu preferred.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
