Agency SummaryThe purpose of the Marion County Treasurer’s Office is to bill, collect, invest, and distribute property taxes and to provide financial analysis related to these functions.

Position Responsibilities- Conduct research for delinquent taxes and/or liens for employees of all political subdivisions (libraries, state, city/county, schools).
- Research and prepare various clearances (e.g., Alcoholic Beverage permits, mobile home moving and/or titling permits, and permits for license from City Controller).
- Process incoming tax payments and correspondence daily, with a higher volume during seasonal periods.
- Process delinquent mail and file the envelopes in numerical order by parcel number.
- Conduct research for Sheriff Sale of delinquent property taxes and/or liens.
- Greets visitors, answers questions in person and on the phone for the public and other government agencies in relation to tax records, current and past.
- Transfer phone calls to other offices as necessary, take messages, and verify accurate information is provided for permits, clearances, etc.
- Assist the public on tax sale related issues.
- Maintain Tax Statement Distribution files.
- Update hard copy billing, as needed.

High School Diploma, Associates preferred, with two (2) to four (4) years of clerical experience maintaining real estate property tax records. Excellent communication skills required. The incumbent must be proficient in the Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Applicant should have excellent customer service experience both on the phone and in person. Previous experience and ability to use a computer, 10-key adding machine, fax/copier machine, and fiche reader required.

- All employees hired or rehired after 01/01/2022 have a choice to select the PERF Hybrid plan (3% + Pension) or the INPRS My Choice:
Retirement Savings plan (3% + 1% Contribution). The Hybrid plan consists of two components:
Annuity Savings Account (ASA) and Pension.
- Employees hired/rehired by the City and County between 01/01/2017 and 12/31/2021 will be automatically enrolled in the PERF My Choice:
Retirement Savings plan. This plan is an annuity savings account (ASA) only plan and does not have a pension component. Any service that an employee has in the My Choice:
Retirement Savings Plan will not count toward the service time requirements for pension eligibility in the Hybrid Plan. - With the PERF My Choice:
Retirement Savings Plan, the ASA is split into two parts:- Part one:
Mandatory employee contribution of 3% of compensation. - Part two:
Additional variable rate contribution paid by the City, currently 1% of Gross Wages. Vesting schedule: 20% after 1 year, 40% after 2 years, 60% after 3 years, 80% after 4 years, 100% after 5 years.
- Part one:
- Employees hired/rehired prior to 01/01/2017 are grandfathered into the PERF Hybrid plan.
- City employees hired/rehired between 01/01/2017 and 12/31/21 who are members of the AFSCME labor union can choose to enroll in either the PERF My Choice:
Retirement Savings plan or the PERF Hybrid plan. Employees have 60 days to choose; by state law this cannot be changed. - Employees may contribute up to an additional 10% of their compensation per pay period to the ASA, for a maximum of 13% of compensation per pay period.
- Employees who separate from the city within their first 10 years of employment should contact INPRS – PERF regarding their ASA account.
