Chip Ganassi Racing is seeking an innovative, driven, and technically strong R&D Engineer to support the development, testing, and optimization of high-performance racecar systems and components. This role places you at the forefront of race vehicle performance, reliability enhancement, and advanced engineering design across multiple racing series. This is primarily a shop-based position with occasional travel to off-site tests and select race events.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to enhance vehicle performance across multiple racing platforms.
- Lead the design and development of advanced mechanical components from concept through production release.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural validation to optimize strength, stiffness, durability, and weight.
- Diagnose and resolve reliability and durability issues using a data-driven, multi-disciplinary engineering approach.
- Utilize data acquisition systems, simulation tools, and physical test rigs to evaluate vehicle dynamics and component behavior.
- Develop correlation plans between simulation, rig testing, and track performance.
- Prepare clear, concise technical documentation and present findings to engineering leadership and trackside teams.
- Manage development timelines to ensure on-time delivery aligned with competition schedules.
- Support select test events and occasional race weekends as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) with 2+ years of professional motorsports or high-performance automotive experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Motorsport Engineering with exceptional academic performance and significant hands-on motorsports involvement (FSAE, internships, race team participation, etc.).
- Strong proficiency in Solid Works (or equivalent CAD software).
- Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, Solid Works Simulation, or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of:
- Structural mechanics and stiffness optimization
- Fatigue and durability analysis
- Materials selection (metals and composites)
- Manufacturing processes (machining, composites, bonded assemblies)
- GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
- Ability to independently lead development projects from concept to race-ready execution.
- Experience in open-wheel or formula-style race programs.
- Experience with gearbox, driveline, or drivetrain component design and development.
- Familiarity with Dallara DW12 platform or similar spec-chassis architecture.
- Experience with suspension compliance modeling and kinematic systems.
- Knowledge of motorsports data acquisition systems (MoTeC, Cosworth, etc.).
- MATLAB and/or Python proficiency.
- Experience with shaker rig correlation and track-to-simulation validation.
- Understanding of oval vs. road/street course setup sensitivities.
