Quality Engineer Job Description Summary

We are searching for a Quality Engineer to join our North Vernon, IN team! The Quality Engineer ensures that products being built and processes being used adhere to all standards and requirements. Monitors engineering processes and products for adherence to company and regulatory standards and practices. Participates in quality‑improvement initiatives and projects. Performs quality reviews and internal audits; evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.

Analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product. Recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.

Job Description
  • Perform liaison function between Plant and customer and supplier locations

  • Participate in the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) meetings and activities including the development of special characteristics.

  • Provide support for compliance with IATF‑16949, ISO‑9001, and ISO‑14001.

  • Develop PPAP or equivalent packages for submission to customers and tracks approval status.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the MQP (Manufacturing Quality Plans) as follows:

    pFMEA, Control Plans, Flow Diagrams

    Inspection Instructions and related forms

    Other (Lot Cards, Ok to Ship tags, etc.)

  • Participate in the development of new or revised gaging methods.

  • Issue Product related process deviations

  • Maintain daily contact and provides support to Manufacturing by facilitating problem solving and continuous improvement to enhance quality and reduce scrap.

  • Facilitate and documents monthly scrap reduction meetings.

  • Provide training related to boundary samples, SPC, customer specific requirements, etc.

  • Disposition product on‑hold throughout the process including Final Audit.

  • Overall maintenance of NCM (Non‑Conforming Material) area including proper tagging, logging, and disposition of material.

  • Participate in customer and 3rd party assessments as required

  • Complete capability studies and other experimental activities related to product/process variables to include reporting and recommendations

  • Develop, implements, and maintains visual boundary samples

  • Develop, implement, and maintain reaction plans

  • Identify & assist with the development of Error Proofing devices (Poka Yokes) in‑process.

  • Assist with gage maintenance including masters and gage certification tables.

  • Directs the activities of the Quality Inspectors

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience.

  • 3+ years experience in Quality documentation/processes (AIAG APQP, MSA, PPAP, SPC FMEA manuals).

  • 3+ years experience in ISO
    9001/IATF
    16949 & ISO
    14001 auditing.
