- May 27th – full day for Teachers and IA's – work day/professional development at Nora – 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- May 28th–June 12th – 7:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Pay: $50 an hour or hourly rate (whichever is higher) for 4.5 hours per day
$45 stipend for May 26th & $90 stipend for May 27th
ResponsibilitiesTeachers of this summer experience will focus on grade level literacy acquisition for at‑risk students in grade 2 and current 3rd graders who did not pass IRead. Teachers will utilize the 90‑minute reading plan, which includes word study, independent reading and small and large group instruction. In addition to the 90‑minute block, every teacher will utilize Writer's Workshop. Math problem solving will also be integrated daily.
Each morning will begin with a Responsive Classroom and or Second Steps lesson during the morning meeting. The fidelity of these instructional models will be an expectation for all teachers. Large group mini lessons followed by small group, differentiated instruction will be the core of each classroom. Teachers will need to work closely with ENL and Resource teachers and instructional assistants to ensure fidelity of the instructional model is being implemented.
Technology will be used in all classrooms as a vehicle to discover, practice and present essential knowledge, concepts and skills. Technology programs include Dreambox and Lexia.
Teachers selected must be available to work two teacher work days that will be held on May 26th (8:30‑11:30) and May 27th (8:30‑3:00). The framework for the daily lessons and refining of teacher skills in the fidelity of the required instructional models listed above will be the main emphasis of the professional development day.
Summer school for 3rd grade must be taught by a teacher, instructor, or tutor who is trained in science of reading as determined by IDOE. The instructor must have completed at least 25 hours from the Early Literacy Endorsement Verified Professional Development Programs and be working toward earning the Early Literacy Endorsement.
