Overview
Name of Scholarship Western Boone – Sandy Heffner Education Scholarship
Background:
Sandy Heffner was born in Boone County. She attended Zionsville Elementary and graduated from Zionsville High School. Sandy received her BS and Master's Degree from Butler University in Elementary Education. She and her husband, Doug, have 2 children that attended Boone County Schools and graduated from Western Boone High School. Sandy had strong ties to this community and took great pride in raising her family here.
Sandy's life-long passion was teaching children. This passion was apparent to everyone entering her classroom. She possessed a unique ability for creating a classroom environment designed to engage her students. Sandy always strived to individualize each child's learning experience and bring out the best in her students. She wanted every student to feel special and have fun while they learned.
Great teachers work very hard behind the scenes. They spend countless hours preparing lessons and innovative projects that will challenge each student to perform to their personal best. They give more than is required to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel confident in themselves. This is the type of teacher Sandy was – a GREAT one.
Sandy was also very involved within the community and her church family. This involvement allowed her to meet and work with many people who came to admire her devotion to others. Sandy's positive impact will continue through others and will be felt for generations to come.
Our HOPE is that you recognize the heart Sandy had for teaching children and carry that on in and out of the classroom. Our PRAYER is that you will recognize Sandy's passion and become enthusiastic in the chain of caring and giving that will reach across the span of time.
