The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking passionate, dedicated, patient, and fun-loving individuals who enjoy actively engaging with children and being outdoors. We are looking for applicants with an interest in education and working with children through Zoo walks, interactive games, engaging lessons, and nature play.
Seasonal Camp Counselors will help children develop and nurture a respect for wildlife and nature, encourage environmental protection, and create a fun and memorable experience. In addition, counselors will have opportunities to work with our conservation education team to continue to develop their professional, educational, and personal skills.
Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Successful applicants will be able to communicate ideas in an engaging manner, and maintain a professional, positive, respectful, and enthusiastic attitude to all guests, volunteers, and coworkers. Prior experience working with the public, especially children in a formal or informal educational institution is highly desirable.
Our on-grounds summer camp programs for children ages 5 to 14 take place from late May through early August.
Seasonal
Camp Counselors are needed Monday through Friday to conduct fun, educational programming. Typical hours are from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. This position pays $13.00/hr.
- Must enjoy working with children and be adaptable to different teaching situations.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Prior experience in a formal or informal educational institution experience is required.
- Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio and telephone.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Education or a related field (Museum Studies, Environmental Studies, Parks and Recreation) is preferred. A High school diploma/G.E.D. is required.
