The Park Tudor English faculty cares deeply about preparing students for the next level of academia while encouraging them to be confident young scholars. The Upper School English Curriculum follows a thematic design and emphasizes a skills-based approach to writing and literary analysis, while also engaging students with texts from the American, European, and Non-Western traditions. The 9th grade class is a genres course, exposing students to nonfiction, poetry, short stories, and novels;
the 10th grade is a survey of American literature; the 11th grade curriculum is based in nonfiction; and 12th grade curriculum focuses on the global literary canon, focusing on works of significant merit from Shakespeare to the present. Students who have demonstrated success in their previous English courses are well-prepared to meet the challenges of an Advanced Placement course at the 11th and 12th grade levels, AP Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition, respectively.
