Description Job Overview
The Instructional Assistant provides instructional support to one or more assigned classroom teachers and student(s) based on their individualized behavior intervention plan (BIP) and/or individualized education program (IEP) under the direction of the special education teacher (TOR), building administrators, and/or behavior response team lead(s) within the school building. The Special Education Instructional Assistant serves as a member of the special education team within the building and attends expected training, meetings, and debriefing sessions necessary to engage as an active member of this team.
PerformanceResponsibilities
- Proactively familiarize yourself with the identified student(s) BIP and/or IEP and ask clarifying questions and provide requested input to make changes to these plans
- Follow an assigned schedule to provide behavior intervention and support to assigned student(s) throughout the school day.
- Collect data as trained by supervising faculty and staff.
- Collaborate as part of the behavior response team and intervention team relevant to assigned student(s).
- Participate in debriefing meetings as needed.
- Provide support as assigned across all educational environments (ex. General education, special education, related arts, cafeteria, etc.).
- Timely and professional communication with all team members using a variety of modes (ex. Email, phone, text).
- Provides instructional interventions under the direction of a teacher that reinforces instructional needs.
- Helps prepare students for formal and informal assessments.
- Assists the classroom teachers with the implementation of the lesson and intervention plans, including supporting small-group instruction and preparing lesson and classroom materials.
- Creates and maintains working relationships between parents, students, and school staff including conducting academic workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
