Job Description
The Chemistry Department at the University of Indianapolis invites applications for an adjunct instructor. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a 100-level course in chemistry, such as Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry (CHEM
104), Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM
103), or General Chemistry I (CHEM
150) with any associated lab session. This is a part-time, non-tenure track position.
- lecture preparation and delivery
- oversight of laboratory experiments
- creation and grading of assessments
- classroom management
- coordination with other members of the department as there are multiple sections of these courses each semester
Minimum Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and outstanding interpersonal and collaborative team skills are required.
- Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modes, such as web-based instruction, cooperative learning or integrated curricula is preferred.
- Masters in chemistry or a related discipline is required.
- Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline is preferred.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students on topics relevant to general/introductory chemistry.
- Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers and examinations.
- Supervise laboratory sessions, coordinate laboratory operations, and supervise undergraduate lab assistants.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
- Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s).
