Role Overview

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Specialist provides office support and administrative assistance to the SFSP Program Senior Specialist who coordinates and manages the entire operation of the United States Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program for Children in the State of Indiana. The SFSP is a multi million dollar entitlement program for sponsors who feed children through the summer months while they are not in a traditional school setting.

The position assists in the determination sponsor eligibility; processes sponsor participation agreements; approves or denies each sponsor's on-line sponsor and site application. They assist in the creation, coordination and facilitation of new and returning sponsor recruitment and trainings, and provide technical assistance to help sponsors complete annual agreement and applications. This position assists in implementing program policies and operating procedures as well as develops and updates materials concerning program outreach operations.

This position is expected to perform outreach in an effort to grow the operations and to drive more sponsors into the program. This position is also responsible for assisting in the development and writing of a plan of action titled the SFSP Management and Administrative Plan. An annual budget must be developed and administered with the assistance of our Finance Department and submitted to the USDA for approval prior to each year's operations.

Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Monitor education program/initiative objectives, outcomes, and actions to achieve agency goals.
  • Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to constituents within educational institutions.
  • Implement strategic action plans to address program gaps and opportunities.
  • Prepare and disseminate reports on program effectiveness.
  • Ensure program requirements adhere to federal and state policies and grants compliance.
  • Assist in the training and development of education system employees or agency consultants on program requirements and usage.
  • Serve as a liaison between agency and other state and federal agencies.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
