Job Description
The Chemistry Department at the University of Indianapolis invites applications for an adjunct instructor. The successful applicant will teach a 100‑level chemistry course, such as Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry (CHEM
104), Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM
103), or General Chemistry I (CHEM
150), and any associated lab session. This is a part‑time, non‑tenure‑track position.
- Lecture preparation and delivery
- Oversight of laboratory experiments
- Creation and grading of assessments
- Classroom management
- Coordination with other department members for multiple sections of these courses each semester
- Respected commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and outstanding interpersonal and collaborative team skills.
- Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modes, such as web‑based instruction, cooperative learning, or integrated curricula (preferred).
- Master’s degree in chemistry or a related discipline (required);
Ph.D. preferred. - Ability to prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework, and handouts.
- Ability to prepare and deliver lectures on introductory chemistry topics.
- Experience evaluating and grading student work, including laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations.
- Experience supervising laboratory sessions, coordinating laboratory operations, and supervising undergraduate lab assistants.
- Staying current with developments in the field through literature, colleagues, and professional conferences.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students on academic and vocational curricula and career issues.
- Follow the guidance and direction of supervisors and demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
- Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules; perform responsibilities as detailed in employee handbooks and policies.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned.
- This role serves as a Title IX Responsible Employee.
