Post-Doctoral Research Associates; LEO

Overview

The Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities (LEO) within the University of Notre Dame’s Department of Economics seeks two post-doctoral research associates. One position focuses on the intersection of criminal justice and poverty; the other covers all research areas related to poverty. Ideal candidates will have evidence of excellence in research in economics or a closely related field, with some experience in the design, execution, or analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Successful candidates will develop a portfolio of LEO-related research projects. There are no teaching responsibilities. Post-doctorals are ordinarily appointed for one year, with potential renewal up to three years. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or expect to complete one by July 1, 2026. This position is eligible for J-1 but not H-1B visa sponsorship.

Develop a portfolio of LEO-related research projects related to poverty and, for one position, criminal justice. Conduct and contribute to research design, execution, and analysis (including randomized controlled trials) as appropriate. No teaching responsibilities required.

Required

• A deep commitment to the mission of both LEO and the University.
• PhD in Economics or a related field.
• Experience studying crime and/or criminal justice (for the criminal justice position).
• Interest in academic projects that collaborate with practitioners.

Preferred

• Experience in design, execution, or analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Salaries for these positions are competitive with faculty positions. Post-doctoral appointments are ordinarily one year with potential renewal up to three years.
