Overview

Instructional Assistant - Part-time Multilingual (Bilingual) position at MSD of Warren Township. The Part-time Multilingual Learner Instructional Assistant provides bilingual support to teachers, staff, and students, with responsibilities including interpretation/translation of classroom assignments and communications to support English language learners.

Job Title:

Part-time Multilingual Learner Instructional Assistant (Bilingual). FLSA Classification:
Non-exempt, hourly employee. Work days: 181 days (school days). Standard hours:
Part-time shifts, flexibly scheduled; hours range 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Warren Central High School, 15-29 hours per week. Work year:
Scheduled to work all days when students are in session, depending on the calendar followed.

Salary:
Starting pay $21.63 per hour. Benefits:
Part-time instructional assistants are paid on the Instructional Assistants salary schedule for the designated program, level 3, and are not eligible for benefits on the Support Staff schedule.

Reports to:

Supervisors include one or more teachers; instruction assistants and teachers report to the building Principal or designee. Supervises:
The Instructional Assistant does not supervise other employees.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Provide bilingual communication support to teachers, staff and students through interpreting and translating data and information.
  • Assist students for whom English is a second language to support comprehension and transition into an English-speaking environment.
  • Communicate with parents and students regarding education and school-related information to ensure full understanding of exchanges.
  • Monitor activities and behavior of students in the absence of the classroom teacher to ensure safety and appropriate conduct; assist in supervision of learning activities and provide learning support.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction in the target language to reinforce skills; utilize games, stories, or other activities as appropriate.
  • Assist in checking and objectively evaluating students  work; reinforce skills in small groups or individually based on instructional guidelines.
  • Assist in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order; escort students as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of lesson plans and classroom activities; provide input on learning tools.
  • Notice students  language, math, and communication skills; monitor progress and document learning activities and any deficiencies.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing instructional materials; perform tasks such as photocopying, laminating, typing, and filing.
  • Coordinate with media center staff for resources; set up classroom equipment as needed.
  • Assist in preparing classroom displays and decorations; contribute to learning objectives.
  • May prepare drafts of reports and forms as required; assist with data entry and scheduling.
  • Learn students  bus routes to assist with proper boarding; maintain accurate records of student information as required.
  • Assist with monitoring duties (hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, bus duty) and supervise students in designated areas.
  • Assist in labs and translation of lesson plans to support student understanding.
  • Keep up to date on current technology used by Warren; attend training to maintain required skill levels.
  • Maintain timely and accurate information as part of job responsibilities.
Qualifications / Entry-Level Requirements
  • Education/Training:
    Associate’s degree or higher, or at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution; or have passed the Para Pro test. Official transcripts required.
  • Experience:

    Previous vocational training or work experience with school-age children is preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses:
    Meet paraprofessional requirements as outlined in ESSA; pass Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check. Must have at least an associate degree or two years of college or have passed the Para Pro Assessment. Para Pro assessment offered at no cost by Highlander Park for Warren Township employees.
