Overview
COMPREHENSIVE CARE AND GENERAL (IN-DSCC-IUINA)
The Indiana University School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879. The Department of Comprehensive Care and Allied Professions consists of the divisions of Comprehensive Care, Allied Professions, and Operative Dentistry. These divisions work with student instruction and clinical patient care to meet the community's oral health needs.
Responsibilities- Assists with patient care including setting up instruments, supplies, and materials for necessary procedures.
- Sits chair-side to pass instruments and supports direct patient care as indicated by procedure.
- Complies with infection control procedures by stripping, disinfecting, and bagging unit after patient care provided.
- Enters findings and procedure information in patient chart as directed by faculty and students and reviews entries to ensure accuracy.
- Requests instruments and supplies from other departments as directed by coordinator.
- Inventories and restocks supplies (all) and instruments.
This position is posted at the Foundational Career Level but may be filled at the Intermediate Career Level depending on the candidate's qualifications. Duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank.
Foundational Career Level RequirementsEducation
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Work Experience
- Completion of dental assisting training program; OR
- 6 months of dental assisting experience
Licenses and Certificates
- Radiology license within 6 months from date of hire

- Possesses strong technical aptitude

- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
Education
- 1 year of assisting in applicable specialty dental assisting
Licenses and Certificates
- Indiana X-Ray License upon date of hire
Preferred
- Dental Assistant Certification upon date of hire

This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices to position patients. The role may require accommodations as needed.

Salary: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour based on experience
