Detailed DescriptionThe Greenhouse Horticulturist is responsible for working with the Senior Greenhouse Horticulturist to develop and maintain the vibrant displays in the Elder Greenhouse plant collection. This position needs to consistently train and lead part‑time staff and volunteers in the planning and implementation of festival program displays, including Winterlights and Harvest. Art in Bloom involves a significant commitment to working with floral professionals from across the country to create art‑inspired pieces in the galleries.
This position will be responsible for leading the team in designing and fulfilling floral requests for special events in the museum and all historic outbuildings. This person needs to be highly self‑motivated, creative, detail‑oriented, and able to complete tasks without supervision.
- Receive and fill floral requests with the purpose of creating a dynamic and beautiful display that fits the theme of the event.
- Create inspiring Interiors capes by using unique plants to catch the interest of guests.
- Manage the care of all interior plant material using horticultural best practices.
- Care for plants within the greenhouse by completing tasks such as routine watering, pest and disease identification, and mitigation. Grooming material for presentation to ensure the best health for the collection.
- Dedication to utilizing the best horticultural practices to ensure the stability of the living collection.
- Work with other departments to successfully design and install greenhouse‑inspired elements for seasonal displays.
- Track budgets, manage communications, and execute festival designs.
- Work with team to keep work spaces, tools, greenhouses, etc. clean and organized.
- Help assign tasks to volunteers and staff based on needs of the team.
- Work with staff and volunteers on developing training and educational opportunities.
- Strong understanding of the maintenance and care of tropical plants.
- Proven floral design experience.
- Organizational skills.
- Comfortable with standard office technology and software.
- 5+ years of Floral Experience.
- B.S. in Horticulture or related field or equivalent experience in the green industry.
