Summary

This Construction/Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting the various departments within the construction management company with their daily tasks, as well as learning the overall elements of the general contracting/construction industry. The Construction/Engineering Intern assists with the coordination between the Project Manager, Project Superintendent, Project Engineer, Design Team, and Owner, helping the Project Manager and Project Superintendent with the organization, scheduling, and implementation of construction projects.

This position will assist with document control for construction project(s), which may include documents from the plans and specifications, to RFI’s, submittals, and project O & M manuals upon completion of the project. The Construction/Engineering Intern also helps with the tracking of change orders for the project(s) they are assigned to. It is the responsibility of a Construction/Engineering Intern to help protect and promote Keystone Construction’s interests in all matters and to do whatever is reasonably necessary to carry out the position’s duties and responsibilities.

Functions

  • Study job specifications and project plans to ensure understanding of construction project and answer field personnel questions with assistance, as appropriate.
  • Assist processing of submittals from subcontractors to A/E, for approval of all scopes of work, based off the plans and specifications.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients, as needed.
  • Assist construction team in obtaining building permits for project(s).
  • Learn appropriate building codes/regulations.
  • Assist with site safety documentation and coordination, job progress tracking, and scheduling, as needed.
  • Assist with closeout of construction projects.
  • Complete, update and distribute project management communications of various types, such as purchase orders, safety inspections, material and labor logs, inventory, and meeting minutes.
  • Assist with the overall project management responsibilities including, account management, billing, scheduling, estimating, budgeting, and coordination of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Assist estimators on various aspects of the bid process, including learning how to gather all the necessary information for a project and compile a bid.
  • Observe and interact with various professionals related to the construction field and jobsite, including owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Attend staff and jobsite meetings.
  • Assist Project Manager and Project Superintendent with assigned tasks.

Position Requirements

The Construction/Engineering Intern must be at least 18 years of age. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and enrollment in an accredited university/college program. Competencies for this position include:

  • Training/education in construction management, engineering, or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with others as a team player.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Organized work style, with strong technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interface with owners, architects, subcontractors, designers, and vendors.
  • Proficient computer skills, including all Microsoft office applications. Procore experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work on and complete projects without immediate supervision.
  • Energetic attitude with a willingness to tackle new projects and ideas.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
