Construction Inspector Municipal Water & Wastewater Infrastructure
We are seeking a Construction Inspector to serve as the on‑site representative for municipal water and wastewater construction projects. This role is ideal for an inspector who enjoys being in the field, takes ownership of their project, and values quality, accuracy, and accountability throughout the construction process.
You will be responsible for observing construction activities, documenting progress, and coordinating closely with contractors and engineers to help ensure projects are built safely and in accordance with plans and specifications.
What You’ll Be Doing- Remain on the jobsite daily throughout active construction
- Observe contractor work to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, field notes, and as‑built markups
- Review and track construction schedules, shop drawings, samples, and contractor submittals
- Verify quantities and assist with review of contractor pay applications
- Attend pre‑construction, progress, and coordination meetings
- Communicate field issues to the project engineer and assist with recommended solutions
- Support jobsite safety programs and follow required safety protocols
- Perform other duties as needed to support successful project delivery
- Water main and sanitary sewer installations
- Storm sewer improvements
- Water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Pump stations and lift stations
- Related underground utility and municipal infrastructure work
- Experience in construction inspection and/or civil construction, with a focus on wet utilities
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and construction reporting software
- Comfort working independently and managing one project at a time
- Inspection experience with a civil consulting firm
- Experience working for a construction contractor
- INDOT construction inspection experience
- Familiarity with construction software such as Procore
- Primarily field‑based with travel to project sites; overnight stays may be required
- Typical construction hours are 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with seasonal or contractor‑driven adjustments
- Overtime is expected during peak construction periods; candidates should be comfortable working 50+ hours per week
- High level of ownership and autonomy, with focus on one primary project at a time
- Stable, long‑term work supporting essential public infrastructure

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
