Project Manager - Civil Construction (Roads, Bridges, Highways)
Reports To: Operations Manager
Our client, a well-established civil construction company specializing in roads, bridges, utilities, and highway projects, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to provide comprehensive oversight for multiple projects. This role focuses on ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, safely, and to the highest standards while maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with Superintendents to ensure timely submission of field paperwork and data to the office.
- Partner with Project Administration to maintain accurate Viewpoint entries, including field data and change orders, for reliable reporting.
- Continuously monitor key project metrics (Heavy Job, Viewpoint Job Cost reports, schedules) to track performance against budgets, estimates, and safety plans; promptly address and mitigate any cost or production issues in coordination with field and senior leadership.
- Approve vendor and subcontractor payments.
- Ensure accurate and contract‑compliant billing; review and approve customer invoices prepared by Project Admin.
- Oversee project closeout processes with support from Project Administration.
- Occasionally review bids with the estimating team for reasonableness (as requested).
- Attend internal project meetings and lead/schedule weekly job progress meetings.
- Foster and maintain strong, long‑term customer relationships while resolving issues professionally.
- Communicate significant project developments to Operations Manager, VP of Operations, and Superintendents that could impact profitability.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
No direct reports; influences through direction of on‑site Superintendents and coordination with support staff.
Qualifications & Requirements- Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, construction management, or related field.
- At least 5 years of progressive project management experience in the construction industry, preferably heavy civil.
- Proven track record managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills for client interactions, team collaboration, and professional presentations (verbal and written).
- Strong mathematical aptitude aligned with basic engineering functions.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel); ability to learn/master HCSS Heavy Job and Viewpoint software.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, delegation skills, reliable attendance, and professional handling of confidential information.
- Minimum 40‑hour work week (overtime frequently required); limited travel for site visits and meetings.
This role combines office‑based planning with regular construction site presence, involving:
- Exposure to weather, temperature extremes, noise, dust, fumes, odors, and chemicals.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including potential respirator.
- Physical activities including standing, walking, sitting, lifting (up to/over 60 lbs occasionally), climbing, bending, pushing/pulling, and operating vehicles or equipment.
