Our client, a Heavy Civil Prime Contractor specializing in large-scale earthmoving and underground utility projects, has an exciting leadership opportunity based in the Indianapolis area. This well-established contractor delivers complex heavy highway, public works, commercial, and industrial site development projects—serving departments of transportation, municipalities, developers, and major private sector clients across multiple industries including healthcare, education, and environmental infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Underground Utilities Superintendent who thrives in a collaborative environment, values safety and quality, and takes pride in leading teams to deliver exceptional results. The ideal candidate brings a positive and motivated attitude, a strong work ethic, proven problem-solving skills, and exceptional organizational ability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and compliant work environment while promoting a strong safety culture across all job sites.

  • Enforce company and OSHA standards with unwavering attention to safety requirements.

  • Work closely with estimators and project managers to develop and implement project plans, schedules, and mobilization strategies.

  • Oversee and coordinate multiple pipe crews, equipment, subcontractors, and material deliveries to ensure efficient operations.

  • Drive project teams to meet or exceed production goals and labor efficiency objectives.

  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, and mentorship to foremen and field personnel.

  • Communicate proactively with owners, inspectors, and internal stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in project progress.

  • Manage subcontractor and vendor relationships to maintain uninterrupted workflow and material availability.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years’ leadership experience in underground utilities and/or civil construction.

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering
    , or related field preferred but not required.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards and best practices for jobsite safety.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple crews and complex job sites under varying conditions.

  • Proficiency with construction software such as HCSS, Excel, and Word
    .

  • Outstanding organizational, planning, communication
    , and leadership skills.

  • Willingness to work extended hours and in all weather conditions as required by project schedules.
