Job Description

The Controller will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations while supporting higher‑level financial responsibilities typically associated with a controller role. This individual will manage core accounting functions, ensure accurate job costing, support project managers with financial insights, and help strengthen internal processes as the company continues to scale.

Job Title:

Controller Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll review, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and cash flow tracking.
  • Maintain accurate job costing and work closely with project managers to track budgets, labor, materials, and change orders.
  • Support project billing, progress invoicing, and retention tracking.
  • Analyze project profitability and provide financial insights to leadership.
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting workflows, and documentation.
  • Assist in implementing or optimizing accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Support year‑end audit preparation and coordination with external accountants.
  • Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Provide financial reporting and KPI dashboards to support operational decision‑making.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for financial questions across the organization.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 5‑10 years of accounting experience.
  • Construction experience is a must.
  • Strong understanding of industrial services or manufacturing job costing.
  • Experience with WIP schedules and project‑based accounting.
  • Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Sage, View, or Quick Books Contractor.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner with field teams, leadership, and project managers.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in general ledger, financial reporting, and cost accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment

The role is based in‑office from Monday to Friday. The company specializes in industrial contracting and metal fabrication, offering a fast‑paced and hands‑on work environment with multiple active projects.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay & Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00–$45.67/hr.
