Job DescriptionThe HSE Intern will assist in supporting the company’s Courage To Care program and environmental management system. The intern will help integrate environmental and safety compliance and management systems into manufacturing operations, track metrics, develop training, coordinate with other facility, regional, and corporate environmental and safety resources, provide a solid foundation of major environmental and safety regulations to the site team, and may participate in environmental and safety agency inspections.
Safety- Assist the site in complying with government (OSHA and similar agencies) safety regulatory compliance requirements, e.g., machinery guards, interlock systems, etc.
- Stay up to date with safety regulations and inform management of changes
- Help ensure the site conducts safety training for all employees, including new hires
- Assist the site with developing Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and revisions
- Assist in site safety audits
- Help maintain accident records and completed reports required by law and company policy, including first aid and near‑miss reports, accident investigation, etc.
- Assist in conducting accident investigations
- Assist in the Courage to Care program
- Help develop procedures to comply with all government safety and corporate safety programs, e.g., energy control, confined space, emergency evacuation and fire drill, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment, powered industrial trucks, contractor safety, and other programs
- Assist with monthly accident analysis for the site
- Attend and participate, when possible, in corporate, insurance, government, Fire Marshall, etc. safety inspections
- Participate in ergonomic assessments of workstations and tasks to identify and address potential risks; assist in implementing ergonomic solutions to improve worker comfort and prevent musculoskeletal disorders
- Other duties as assigned
- Assist with environmental permits (air, water, wastewater, and hazardous waste), including renewals, required reporting, permit modifications, and required notifications
- Conduct environmental audits at the assigned site
- Assist the site with reports required by permits and coordinate monthly HSE compliance forms to facility and corporate management
- Assist in researching new applicable information via internet searches
- Assist in maintaining all required environmental policies, procedures, and plans
- Assist with any customer requests regarding chemical use and product content
- Assist with hazardous industrial waste disposal
- Assist with participation in the environmental stewardship initiative programs
- Stay up to date with regulatory changes and technology
- Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), risk assessment modeling, and regulatory agency online reporting
- Strong communication skills, written and oral
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills
- Strong influencing skills with the courage to express an independent point of view
- Administrative experience with great attention to detail
- Excellent sense of ethics and accountability
- Clear, professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills
