Role Purpose

Mechanical Facilities Engineer is a pivotal role responsible for the planning, design, installation, and commissioning of all mechanical systems and infrastructure required for new automotive product launches. This engineer ensures that the manufacturing facility's critical utility systems—including HVAC, process piping, compressed air, and material handling systems—are robust, safe, and ready to support high‑volume production from the initial design phase through to the full production release.

Key Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure Planning & Design:
Develop detailed designs and layouts for new facility infrastructure and building systems, including industrial HVAC, plumbing, process water, compressed air, and fire protection systems.
  • Project Management & Installation:
Lead and manage multi-disciplinary projects related to facility upgrades and new equipment installations. This includes developing project scopes, generating Requests for Quotation (RFQ), evaluating bids, and coordinating internal teams and external contractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Equipment Commissioning & Start‑up:
Oversee the installation, testing, verification, and final commissioning of all new mechanical equipment and systems. Ensure seamless integration with building automation systems and existing manufacturing lines.
  • Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all facility designs and operations strictly comply with local, state, and federal building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations. Conduct safety audits and participate in risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshooting & Support:
Provide expert technical support and rapid troubleshooting for mechanical system failures during the intense launch and early production phases to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement:
Prepare and maintain all necessary technical documentation, blueprints, maintenance plans, and reports. Drive strategic planning and energy conservation activities to optimize building efficiency and implement continuous improvements.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience:

5+ years in industrial facility management, specifically within large‑scale manufacturing or automotive plants.
  • Proven ability to manage Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects, from drafting RFQs to contractor oversight and budget tracking.
  • Experience in Equipment Commissioning, including functional performance testing to ensure systems meet design intent.
  • Ability to "speak the language" of both internal stakeholders and external mechanical contractors to ensure high‑quality installation.
  • Calm, methodical approach to rapid system failures; identifying root causes under the pressure of a production stoppage.
  • "Safety‑first" mindset, ensuring all installations prioritize Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and technician safety.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert-level use of AutoCAD or similar to design and interpret complex facility layouts.
  • Skills in load calculation and energy auditing to drive sustainability and reduce utility overhead.
  • Mastery of industrial HVAC, chilled water loops, high‑pressure compressed air systems, and process piping.
Salary Range

$95,000 - $120,000 USD
